Victoria Aravanetakes Bassil June 23, 1930 - October 3, 2018
Bassil, Victoria Arvanetakes, 88, passed away, Wednesday, October 3, 2018, in her native Miami. Victoria was born to Nathaniel and Evangelia Arvanetakes, and her early life was spent in what is now the Miami Design District, where her father was a businessman. Victoria was graduated from Miami High in 1948, and later married her cherished husband, George, at The St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, in Miami, where she attended Sunday School as a child and sang in the choir as a young adult. Victoria and George were founding members of The St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, in Kendall, and she was a leader in many philanthropic organizations in her beloved Greek community, including The Philoptochos Society, Daughters of Penelope and The Papanicolaou Cancer Research Institute. Victoria enjoyed a career as an insurance underwriter, but her greatest delight was spending time with family, friends and especially her two grandaughers whom she doted on. She was kind, sincere, faithful and filled every room she entered with love. Yiayia Victoria was predeceased by her parents, cousin Tresa Calvert and her adoring husband, George. She is survived by her devoted children Alexandra Bassil, James (Nikki) Bassil and Danny (Tooty Del Toro) Bassil; loving grandchildren Arianna Victoria and Kosmia Georgette Bassil, godchildren and many other extended family members here and abroad. The viewing will take place at Stanfill Funeral Home, 10545 S Dixie Hwy, Miami, FL, on Friday, October 5th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the Trisagion service at 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, October 6th at 9:00 a.m. at The St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 7901 N. Kendall Dr, Miami, with Fr. Aristidis Arizi officiating. The Internment Graveside Service will take place at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, 1750 Curlew Rd, Palm Harbor, FL, on Tuesday, October 9th at 9:00 a.m., with Fr. Jim Paris officiating. In liew of flowers it is requested that donations be made to St. Andrew's or to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Capital Campaign Fund, The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 409 Old Coachman Rd.
