THOMAS HENRY SHAD, JR.
Passed away on August 27, 2020 at home with his wife Mary Lou and Fr. Tim Fleck from St. Thomas at the bedside. He bravely fought a battle against cancer. He was born in Jacksonville Florida, to Margaret Peters Shad and Thomas H. Shad, Sr. Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Arroyo-Shad; brother, Arthur Shad; sister, Peggy Brown; step daughter Angela Gross; daughter-with-love, Dawn Hogans Pino and her daughters, his granddaughters, Mahala and Suraya Hogans. He is loved by his cousins and in-laws and is sorely missed. He graduated from Orange Park High’s first graduating class where he formed life long friendships. He was a University of Florida Journalism School graduate, loving his Gator football team. He lived in Bristol Tennessee, Alabama and Jacksonville, Florida before permanently living in Cutler Bay, Florida. He loved the Miami Dolphins. He loved the Miami Marlins, he and Mary Lou had season tickets. Before he retired he was the Finance Director for many years at Deel Automotive Sales. He was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, he and Mary Lou were the Parish Reps from St. Thomas in the Cursillo Community; he taught Sunday School; was a teacher at VBC; helped children at St. Thomas Episcopal School with reading; served at the Altar as a Chalice Bearer and lay Reader; served at the Children’s Chapel at the school; worked in the Church Office where he was always available to help. He was loved by everyone who knew him, especially the children he so enjoyed working with and where he found his grand daughters. He always had a smile on his face and his calm demeanor made him a favorite wherever he was.
