Tribute

Rev. T. Luther Jones-"Miami's Chaplain," passed away March 4th, with cancer. Luther was born in Mississippi, the son of E. E. Jones and Annie Belle Jones. Luther served the sick, injured, and dying-and their families, as a hospital & US Navy Chaplain, for over 63 years in Miami. He is the founding pastor of Eureka Baptist Church, Eureka, CA. For the last 22 years he was Head Chaplain for Vitas Hospice, Miami-retiring in 2023 at age 87 only bc of cancer. He was a devoted Christian, husband, father, brother, uncle, son, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He ministered to over 50,000 patients at Jackson, Baptist, South Miami Hospitals. He created and implemented the first Clinical Pastoral Care Training Program in SE USA, which helped Jackson Hospital attain Joint Accreditation. He helped open Baptist Hospital in 1966 as their Chaplain; and was COB for P.L. Dodge Foundation. He was a Lt. Commander in the US Navy, and a proud member of the American Legion & Riviera Country Club. He was a Southern Gentleman, a great dancer, beautiful singer of hymns, had a solid stint as a model and member of SAG-AFTRA, and the sweetest man ever. He is survived by his brother Harold Jones, daughters Tamara Jones McKee and Allison Griffiths (Simon); Grandchildren Kyle Sterling, Max McKee, Grace Ann Grubbs (Alec), Clare McKee, Zebedee McKee, and Erin Griffiths; 1Great Granddaughter (Grubbs); 11 nieces & nephews; 52 first cousins especially Lovita Jones Byrne; Patricia Carter; Peter Sullivan, Tish Sullivan, Crew Sullivan; and many dear friends at Granada Church, Riviera Country Club, Vitas Team 120, and American Legion Post 31. He is predeceased by his parents; siblings James Jones, Eugene Jones, Ella Joy Freeman; and Ramsey Sullivan; and wife and mother of his children Janice Cox Jones; and wife Pat Sullivan Jones.
