Stephen Strongson, 60, resident of Miami, Florida, died June 13, 2019.
Steve was born in Brooklyn, New York City in the neighborhood of Canarsie. He was a magnetic educator, bringing history to life over the past 22 years at the Genesis GiftedCenter/Homestead Middle and Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School. Steve also led many student groups from New York City – D.C. and London – Rome, the world was his classroom. Steve won many awards and recognition as an outstanding educator.
He was a proud graduate of Florida International University with a M.A. in History. Before becoming a teacher Steve tried a number of jobs from lifeguard to a manager in the Federal Reserve Bank – Miami. He is survived by his wife Leah and their daughter, Elizabeth, as well as his good friend and former wife, Donna Marakas and their son, Spencer.
Steve’s gift was his wit and his sense of humor – even when he made you angry, he also made you laugh. He was 100% Leo in his style, loyalty and enormous heart. Strongson would wish for all of us who loved him to kick back a shot of an excellent single malt (or peach tea) and enjoy life!
