Tribute

Stephen H. Carter passed away on Friday, March 23rd, 2018 at his home in Coral Gables, FL.
Steve was born May 22, 1945 in Olathe, KS. He was the fourth of five children to Commander Harold “Nick” Carter, USN and Heisel McNeil Carter, RN. His family settled, in military retirement, in Winter Park, FL where he attended Winter Park High School. He was a 1968 graduate, longtime booster and fervent fan of Florida State University, where he was a brother in the Delta Chi fraternity.
Steve started his professional career as an Employee Benefits Sales Associate for Travelers Insurance in their Tampa and Jacksonville offices. He became an Employee Benefits Manager for Home Life of New York Insurance in their New Orleans office and then the Vice President and Senior Vice President of Employee Benefits for Frank B. Hall Insurance in St. Louis and then Miami, where he stayed. He became the Senior Vice President of Marketing for AvMed and then retired as President of Black Ink Associates, his Employee Benefits Consulting and Brokerage firm.
As a longtime resident and enthusiast of Miami, Steve was a member of the Key Biscayne Yacht Club, the Doral Park Country Club and the Rotary Club of Coconut Grove. As a member of the Key Biscayne Yacht Club since 1987, he served on the Board of Governors, 1998-2001, and as the Chairman of the Membership Committee, 2009-2011. He was an active, participatory member of the Rotary Club of Coconut Grove since 2006, where he served as Club President 2008-2009 and as Foundation President since 2012.
Steve will be forever remembered by his sisters, Anne Allison and Mary Lavalle, his former wife, Candy Carter, his daughter, Leslee Brackin and her husband John, his grandchildren, Jack and Gracie Brackin, and his friends, too many to count.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 12th, 2018 at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, 2990 South Bayshore Drive, 4:00-7:00pm. The family welcomes anyone who would like to share a sentiment and may do so beginning at 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Diabetes Association at American Diabetes Association Tribute and Memorial
