Richard David Lancaster, age 85 passed away on May 6, 2022at Lexington Place Senior Living Community in New Smyrna Beach, FL. He was born on June 18, 1936 in Coral Gables, FL, the son of Augustus & Catherine Lancaster. He was predeceased by his brother, Bruce Lancaster in 1998. He is survived by son Joseph Lancasterand wife, Isabel of Black Mountain, NC and son Eric Lancasterand wife Cynthia of New Smyrna Beach, FL. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Joseph Lancaster Jr. of Tampa, FL and Julia Lancaster of Jacksonville, FL.
Richard’s father Gus moved to Miami in the 1920s where he met and married his mother Catherine Hern and founded Coral Gables Laundry in 1930. Richard was born at Coral Gables Hospital in 1936 where he grew up attending St Teresa Catholic School, Miami Country Day School and Archbishop Curley High School. He graduated from Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA in 1957. He then served in the United States Airforce and after going to work with his family at Coral Gables Laundry in 1961. In 1965 he became owner and operated Coral Gables Laundry and Dry Cleaning Company until he retired in 1992.
He was a member of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables, the University of Miami Citizens Board, St Kieran Catholic Church and several other organizations in the Miami area for many years.
In 1992 he retired to live on his 52’ sailboat in Coconut Grove where he traveled to the Bahamas and the Florida Keys often. After the sailing life he came back to Coral Gables where he lived until 2020 then moving to New Smyrna Beach to be closer to family.
Private Services were held and Richard was laid to rest with his mother, father and brother in Woodlawn Park Cemetery.
