Rebecca Rogers Cordes

Rebecca “Becky” Rogers Cordes, 85, of Palmetto Bay, Florida, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at home with her beloved husband and daughter by her side. A devout Christian her whole life, her family knows that she is now at peace with our Lord in heaven.

Becky shared 60 wonderful years with her husband, Ron, and is survived by him and their three children, Chris, Cheryl, and Billy. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren whom she loved deeply, and never failed to share her pride in them with others whenever possible. She is also survived by her brother, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Raised in Dillon, South Carolina, Becky attended Limestone College before moving to Columbia, South Carolina, where she met her future husband. Becky and Ron were married in 1957 and moved back to Ron’s hometown of Miami, Florida, to start their lives together. Though Becky knew no one outside of Ron’s family before moving to Miami, wherever she went, she never met a stranger. Her smile, kindness, and genuine spirit left all she encountered with a warm feeling.

She was both an avid tennis player and an active member of the congregation at Kendall United Methodist Church, however, nothing made her happier than her family. She and Ron were fortunate enough to split many of their years between Miami, where Cheryl and Billy raised their families, and their house in Cashiers, North Carolina, near their oldest child, Chris, and his family.

Becky will forever be in the hearts of her family and friends and always remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother and caring friend.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Becky’s memory may be made to the Rebecca Rogers Cordes Scholarship fund established in her honor at Limestone College, where she was an alumna of the class of 1952. The scholarship is awarded annually to native South Carolina students with financial need in good academic standing, just as she was awarded such a scholarship when she attended.
