Cmdr. Nils Linfors, Jr., 79, a resident of Palmetto Bay since 1973, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019. Born in Bronxville, NY on October 20, 1939, and moving at the age of 6-months-old, he was raised in the Panama Canal Zone.
Linfors is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 57-years, the former Kathryn Barnes of Uncasville, Connecticut, as well as, three loving sons and daughters-in-law, Nils Eric and Stacy Linfors, Robert Barnes and Sophia Linfors and Patrick Hatfield and Patricia Linfors. Linfors is survived by eight adoring grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, class of 1961, Linfors retired as a Commander in 1982. Earning a Juris Doctor in 1970 from the University of Maryland, Linfors completed his Coast Guard career as the Legal Officer for the 7th District in Miami.
As an attorney in private practice, Linfors focused on maritime law at Hayden and Milliken P.A. and then helped found the firm, Horr, Linfors & Skipp P.A., in 1993.
Linfors is Past President of the Propeller Club Miami, and most recently served as the local Vice President of MOAA, the Military Officers Association of America.
Linfors was an active lector, usher and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Rosary St. Richard Church in Palmetto Bay. In raising three sons in Catholic education, Linfors was active in supporting Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic School and Christopher Columbus High School.
For several decades, Linfors served as a little league baseball umpire at the Perrine Khoury League.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary St. Richard Catholic Church, 7500 SW 152nd St, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157. A burial is being planned at Arlington National Cemetery.
