Mercedes Berenice Shipp was born in the fishing village of East Harbour (South Caicos) on December 11, 1956 to the late Lionel Austin and Julia Ann Thomas. Mercedes was the second to last child of 11 children. Mercedes joined her parents on August 12, 2021, her sisters Rosalie and Shirley, her brother Austin in heaven. Left to cherish her memories are her sisters Annie Louise Hanna and Simona Hall and brothers William, Wilfred, Shirlen, and Carlton and a multitude of nieces and nephews. At the young age of 18, Mercedes met Jon Adlai Shipp, Sr. and on November 14, 1975, Mercedes and Jon were married. Mercedes left her small island and moved to the United States to build her own family. Mercedes and Jon had four children: Yanette Berenice Shipp, Charnita DuDonna Fabian (Son in Law Henry Raul Fabain), Jontha AnnDare Shipp, and Jon Adlai Shipp, Jr. Mercedes had three grandchildren that she adored: Deangelo Davis, King Dane Fabian, and Journee Mercedes Shipp. Mercedes was a Medical Assistant for over 30 years and was looking forward to her retirement. She loved to travel back “home” to visit her family, shopping and game shows. Mercedes was regal, fabulous and elegant. She has left a legacy of beauty. Our beautiful mother will be laid to rest in South Caicos, her small island, her home. A service for Mercedes will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 20740 Old Cutler Road, Cutler Bay, FL 33189. A visitation will take place at the church from 10am till 11am followed immediately by the Funeral Service.
