Meaza Simenehe Funk, 76, died at peace in her sleep at Baptist Hospital Miami, Florida on Sunday morning January 10, 2021,surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopiia on August 9, 1944 to her late mother, Asegedech Bayou of Harrar, Ethiopia and her late father Simeneh Dinke of Holeta, Ethiopia.
Meaza lead a long life filled with love, adventure and accomplishment from her early days in Addis Ababa, to New York, Washington DC, and finally Miami. In Addis Ababa she was a successful advertising business owner before her marriage to Gerald Anthony Funk (preceded in death). They brought two families together to start a lifetime of adventures for everyone. Her next chapter in life was in New York State as the mother of a diverse Ethiopian and American family living in North Tarrytown where her children weathered the culture shock of moving from Ethiopia to New York. Having successfully managed to get her family through life, she moved on to Washington DC where she managed to build and own an Information Technology Company. She spent her retirement years in Miami Florida, close to her youngest daughter and grandchildren.

Meaza’s was the proud mother of eight children; Gabriella Simenehe (Ababu), Mark Anthony Funk, Melanie Ann Friedman (Josh), Matthew Thomas Payne-Funk, Holly Simenehe Funk, Megan Mary Brisbane (Kenny), Prize Balcha Funk (Marnelle) and Rebkah Mariam Howard (Desmond), nineteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Meaza is survived by her siblings; Hanna Simeneh, Zeditu Simeneh, Sileshi Simeneh, Lidetu Simeneh, Fikrete Simeneh, Berhanu Simeneh, Mesfin Simeneh, Sufanite Simeneh, and preceded in death by Yilma Simeneh , Menbere Simeneh, Tenagne Simeneh, Hirut Simeneh.
She is also preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter Tamika Huston.
Due to COVID restrictions, the service will be limited to immediate family and a maximum of 25 people
Services will be held January 23, 2021, 11:30 am at Fairfax Memorial Garden Chapel, Fairfax Virginia.
Interment will follow immediately after the service at Fairfax Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
