MCCABE, DR. MEAD M.
Mead passed away peacefully on March 6, 2018 at the age of 80, with his loving wife of 53 years, Marigrace, by his side. He lived life to its fullest and was a brilliant, accomplished scientist who earned a full scholarship to grad school for his doctorate at The University of Miami after having completed college in three years at Penn State University. After decades as an award winning medical researcher and professor at The University of Miami, he became a successful entrepreneur who founded two genetics companies. He was also a gifted artist, a huge Canes fan and an avid water sports enthusiast who loved sailing, windsurfing, fishing and boating. Mead was kind, loving, full of laughter and a consummate family man. We will dearly miss him. Mead was the beloved father to two children: Margaret Catherine (McCabe) Luebke (Bill) and Mead Michael McCabe, Jr. (Judy) and grandfather to three boys: Michael Luebke, Robert Luebke and Mead McCabe, III. A Mass will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1400 Miller Road, Coral Gables on March 10th at 3pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in memory of Dr. Mead McCabe to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics – Alzheimer Research Studies.
