MOORMAN, JEANNE ANN died peacefully on January 3rd 2018 after a very full life of 89 years. She spent a wonderful and sunny Christmas holiday with visits from her six children (Robert Jr, Steve, Mary Ann, Patty, Mike and John), 15 Grandchildren, 11 Great-grandchildren, spouses and friends.

Jeanne Ann was the second child of Carroll and Marcella Seghers. She had a happy childhood spent mostly in Cincinnati. As a teenager, Jeanne Ann supported the war by selling bonds outside of the local department store. While attending Maryville College she met her future husband at a St. Louis University dance. Bob Moorman was attending St. Louis University, following his service in the Marines in the Pacific theater.

Bob and Jeanne Ann were married in Cincinnati in 1950. They were soul mates and partners for nearly 60 years building a happy home and a successful business and raising their six children prior to Bob’s passing in 2009. They shared a strong faith and were founding members of Epiphany parish in South Miami.

Prior to moving to South Florida, Jeanne Ann was a pioneering TV broadcaster as host of Kathy’s Kitchen – a live cooking show in Cincinnati in the early 1950’s. In addition to being one of the city’s most popular television shows, she achieved notoriety and was forced off the air when she appeared on television while expecting her first child.

Bob and Jeanne Ann moved permanently to Coral Gables in 1951. Her father had arrived a few years earlier to open Carroll’s Jewelers on Miracle Mile. Bob joined the business which expanded with a second store on Las Olas in Ft Lauderdale which is now run by her son, Bob Jr.

Jeanne Ann had great vigor and was very active in her community and at Epiphany Church. One of the high points of her career was being appointed Coral Gables City Commissioner from 1989 to 1991 based on her record of significant civic achievements.

She was an early advocate for bicycling and the driving force behind Miami’s first bicycle path. “Almost single-handed she persuaded the Metro Commission and Coral Gables to pitch in for a bicycle path along scenic Old Cutler road. In fact, she’s done everything except put down the paving.” (Miami News, 3/17/64)

Jeanne Ann was also a strong believer in building friendships beyond her family and community. Under her leadership of the Coral Gables Person-to-Person program, the “Old Shoes” sculpture was erected at Cocoa Plum circle. The original sculpture is located in Coral Gables’ Sister City of Cartagena, Columbia.

Jeanne Ann made many other contributions to her community however she will be remembered most for her gentle sense of humor, for the example she set to succeed through hard work and determination, and for the friendship, love and support she provided to all of us.
