James Plummer Riach, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2021 to be reunited with his beloved Alicia, perennial wife, companion, and ardor for well-nigh 60 years.
Born 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, he grew up surrounded by loving parents James and Melrose until graduating from Northwestern University with an acuity and fondness for economics, engineering, and chemistry. With degree in hand and profound spirit of adventure in his heart, he set out to South America at the age of 22 to forge an illustrious career in the oil industry, working in the rainforests of Colombia and the deserts of Peru before meeting and marrying the love of his life. Together, they travelled across the South American continent, raising his four surviving children, Alicia, Eileen, Jim, and Bill until permanently settling in Miami, Florida in 1971.
Upon his early retirement, he celebrated by removing his watch forever and with a soft spot for a well-cooked bife, deep connection to family roots, and untiring energy he continued to travel the world with his wife and family remaining active until the very end. He kept on learning and applying himself in carpentry, gardening, and anything dealing with modern technology. To those who knew him well, it seemed there was nothing he could not do once he set his mind to do it.
He was a beacon of inspiration to us all and will be deeply missed.

Nacido en 1926 en Chicago, Illinois, creció rodeado de los amorosos padres James y Melrose hasta graduarse de la Northwestern University con una agudeza y afición por la economía, la ingeniería y la química. Con licenciatura en mano y un profundo espíritu de aventura pesando en su corazón, partió a Sudamérica a la edad de 22 años para forjar una ilustre carrera en la industria petrolera, trabajando en las selvas tropicales de Colombia y los desiertos de Perú antes de conocer y casarse con el amor de su vida. Juntos, viajaron por el continente sudamericano, criando a sus cuatro hijos sobrevivientes, Alicia, Eileen, Jim y Bill, hasta establecerse permanentemente en Miami, Florida en 1971.
Tras su jubilación anticipada, celebró quitándose el reloj para siempre y con gusto par un buen bife, una conexión profunda a las raíces familiares y una energía incansable, continuó viajando el mundo con su esposa y su familia permaneciendo activo hasta el final. Siguió aprendiendo y aplicándose en carpintería, jardinería y todo lo relacionado con la tecnología moderna.
