Tribute

Jack Donald Temple Jr., a beloved husband, father, and mentor passed away on April 25, 2024, in the Miami home where he raised and nurtured his family for nearly 40 years. He was born on July 30, 1952, in Miami, Florida to his parents, Jack Donald Temple Sr, and his mother Helen “Cookie” Underhill. He is survived by the loves of his life, his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Regina Kramer Temple of Miami, FL, three daughters, Laura Temple of Hollywood, FL, Kathleen (Andrew) Kicera of Gainesville, FL, Elizabeth (Emily) Temple of Atlanta, GA, granddaughter Charlotte Isla Kicera, born on his 70th birthday, with another grandbaby due mid-summer, as well as his two sisters, Mary Ann (Gene) Carr of Naples, FL and Connie Temple Bozeman of Tallahassee FL, along with countless loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Don was an avid Miami Hurricanes fan and follower. He graduated from University of Miami’s undergraduate program in 1974 with honors. In 1978, he earned his medical degree from the University of Miami in Hematology Oncology, and Internal medicine. In 1977 he was awarded the university's highly coveted Iron Arrow Award for his outstanding character, leadership ability, and scholastic achievement. After graduating, he practiced medicine at Veterans Administration Hospital, followed by Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he met his wife, Regina, who worked on the same floor as a Registered Nurse. He then transitioned to his position at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he treated and changed the lives of numerous people through his unconventional and patient-personalized treatment plans. He was director of the William Harrington Latin America Program that nurtured and educated twelve Latin American physicians annually with a commitment to return to their home countries upon completion of training. Don also taught the Hematology Course at the medical school, where he continued to educate and change the lives of those who took his course. He proceeded to win the George Paff Teaching Award for 23 straight years, voted by his beloved students. In 2014, the University of Miami created the Jack Donald Temple Unsung Hero Award, where students cast ballots every year to nominate faculty and staff members who go above and beyond their responsibilities to deliver the highest quality of education and mentorship.

Don was a man of unwavering integrity and boundless compassion. His love for his family knew no bounds; he cherished every moment spent with “his girls”, snorkeling in Key Largo, having picnics in the pool area, or just lounging in his favorite spot, peacefully listening to the chaos around him. Even with the unwavering devotion and love he carried for his career, the greatest title he carried was being a father and husband. He will be unbelievably missed not only by his family but by the countless lives he touched, and the lives he saved.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on June 1st, 2024 at Stanfill Funeral Home at 12 pm. 10545 South Dixie Hwy Miami, FL 33156
