Irene E Haley

Irene E. Haley, 96, currently of East Ridge in Cutler Bay, Florida, passed away March 11, 2021 to join our Lord in heaven. She peacefully died in her sleep.

She was born to Rose and Howard Lucier on August 5, 1924, in Worcester, Massachusetts and graduated from Malden High School in 1942. She remained in the Boston area working until she met and married our Dad, Robert F. Haley on May 11, 1947. Dad was her life long partner and friend, and they were together for 68 years through thick and thin until his passing on February 10, 2015. They resided in Marlborough, Connecticut at the same location on Jones Hollow Road in the house they built. Mom moved to a retirement community near her eldest son in 2017, but always considered Marlborough home.

Mom is survived by her sister, Dotty Currie (East Hampton, Ct); and her four sons: Michael (Palmetto Bay, FL); Paul (Coon Valley, Wi); James (Port St Lucie, FL); and Stephen (Hialeah, FL). She is also survived by eight grandchildren and fourteen great grand children.

Mom seemed to be most comfortable with the simpler life and was selfless in putting family ahead of her immediate needs. Never idle (raising four boys demanded it), always on the move in the kitchen or outside in the huge garden or attending our roadside orchard stand. She loved talking on the phone to her close friends and hosting other neighborhood folk after daily baking sessions of bread, pies, and her famous cowboy cookies. Mom was active in the community helping with the polls at voting time (got to see all Marlborough's old timers) and with St. Johns Fishers prayer shawl knitting church group. Mom never learned to drive, but was able to get around at the generosity of others. She was pleasant to be around, always willing to help others and stand up for people willing to do right.

Mom's only wish was to be joined with Dad in their resting place at Marlborough cemetery. She would say “I'm alright and I don't need to be a bother to anybody.” We will always love you and most certainly miss you.

A private memorial service will be held with immediate family on April 3, 2021 coordinated by Stanfill Funeral Homes (Miami, FL) via electronic media. The plan is to meet in Marlborough September 2021 to join Mom and Dad together graveside. An announcement will be shared in the future.
