Gregory Dean Guess

December 10, 1964 ~ August 20, 2017 (age 52)
Gregory Dean Guess, age 52.
A Miami resident for the past 30 years, Greg Guess succumbed to cancer early Sunday morning, August 20th.  He passed in the South Miami home in which he has lived over several years.

Born on December 10, 1964 in Newton, Iowa and raised in Sully, Iowa and Kansas City, Greg epitomized the midwest values of trustworthiness, friendliness and a strong work ethic.  Greg possessed a keen wit and intellect, was an excellent cook and gardener, and an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals.

Greg loved the family house at Pomme de Terre Lake in Missouri and planned to move back to Missouri to live. He travelled and spent time there over the 4th of July week, where he was able to visit with his mom, sisters and some of his nieces and nephews.

Greg was a valued employee of the Flagler Home Depot where he was an expeditor and sales associate for the past 25 years.  He was often recognized for his service, receiving the “Homer Award” many times in his career.

In the last months of his young life, he was cared for by his close friend John Edward Smith, publisher of SOMI Magazine, where he also assisted as a copy editor. In Miami, he leaves behind John Edward, his dear friend Fermin Cedeno, and associates and friends at Home Depot.

Funeral services are being held at the Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe, Iowa on Saturday, August 26, 2017.  His mother Joyce Guess, sisters Jennifer Inman, Tamara Kaiser, and Paula Adkins, and his nephews and nieces will be celebrating his life.  He is preceded in death by his father Lester (d. 2000) and an infant sister Peggy Lynn (d. 1955).  Interment will be in the family plot in the Clinton Garfield Cemetery in Rolfe, Iowa.

Pictured with Greg is his beloved Tasha, who died in 2009.
