Gloria Dean Burrage Reed
September 12th, 1931 – July 20th, 2022

Eulogy-Gloria Dean Burrage Reed
Born in Preston, Mississippi.  She was the first child to Earl and Gladys Adcock Burrage. Her family moved to South Florida in 1945 where she met her husband Rick in 1952 while he was home on leave from the Air Force.  They were married 12/27/1954.  They had their first son, Richard Earl Reed on 10/14/1955 and were then blessed with twins Robert Franklin Reed and William Scott Reed eleven months later, 09/07/1956.  Steven Raymond Reed, their last son, was born on 7/27/1959. Sadly, Robert Franklin passed away on 12/02/1961.

While Rick served his country, they lived in different parts of the world including Craig AFB in Selma Alabama; Clinton-Sherman AFB, Oklahoma; two assignments at Homestead AFB, Florida; Taipei, Taiwan and two tours in Germany. Rick also served some isolated tours in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Japan, while Gloria stayed at home, dedicating her time to caring for her family.

As a young woman Gloria worked as a secretary, then sold Avon for a time. In 1975 she began her 24 year career at Homestead AFB. She retired on 7/2/1999 as Deputy Chief 31stTactical Fighter Wing Contracting Officer. Rick and Gloria did some traveling and spent time together as a couple and with her family including her seven grandchildren - Robin, Tyler, Jennifer, Jonathan, Sandy, Shannon & Sarah. Her husband Rick became ill in 2001 and Gloria continued to show her dedication as she cared for him until his passing 3/26/2007.

She was active at St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years and was able to continue to attend with the help of her caregiver Kenia Aguiliar. She is survived by her sons, Rick (Mary), Bill (Debbie) & Steve (Kathy), six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Gloria’s gracious strength was always present. She was a strong and tough woman, but first and foremost she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, great-grandmother, beloved sister and aunt, and a dear friend to many. Gloria was a role model to so many that passed her way and her resolute strength was a source for much admiration. But her boys will tell you that underneath that tough exterior there was a heart of gold full of love and that her strength came from her walk with the Lord.
