December 8, 1946 ~ August 22, 2021 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Tribute

Gerald W. McSwiggan (December 8, 1946 – August 22, 2021)
Gerald “Gerry” McSwiggan passed away in Miami, Florida on August 22. He was 74 years old.
Gerry never met a person he didn’t like. From his infectious laughter to his deep generosity, he was someone who everyone wanted to be around. He was the type of person who made a friend in fifth grade and stayed loyal to him for his entire life. Ever quick with a joke or a nickname that always seemed to stick, he surrounded himself with people and loved them with his whole heart.
In the final days of his life, his sister thanked him for being a great big brother. And that’s who he was – a great brother, husband, father, and friend. He will be remembered for his voracious appetite for books, spending hours in the Coral Gables library reading about World War II battles. He loved sports, having played football at Christopher Columbus High School in the 1960s, and never said no to a big bowl of spaghetti and meatballs.
Born in Philadelphia to Edward and Agnes McSwiggan, Gerry moved with his family to Miami in 1953 and worked in the family business after graduating from the University of Florida. He first met his wife in 1972 and swept her off her feet with trips to Las Vegas and visits to Dominque. Over the past 16 years, he fought hard to overcome numerous health challenges associated with a stroke he suffered in 2005.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Norma; his children, Gerald (Merrick) and Meagan (Zach); his grandchildren, Tatum, Quinn and Sawyer; his sister, Marilyn; his brother; four nieces; and a host of other family and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held from 12:00 noon – 12:30 pm on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Stanfill Funeral Home (10545 South Dixie Highway, Miami, FL) with a memorial service at 12:30 pm and reception immediately following, lasting until 1:45pm.
