Floriva M. Cotter

Cotter, Floriva Messier. 91 born June 22, 1927 passed away peacefully on August 24, 2018. Floriva was born in Montgomery, Alabama. 
    She attended St. Margaret's School of Nursing in Alabama and was a proud member of the U.S. Army Cadet Nurse Corp during World War II. She met her future husband, Paul, while in training. They were married July 13, 1946 and later moved to Miami.
    Floriva was preceded in her death by her parents, Joseph and Minee Messier, her husband, Paul, siblings, Henry, Charles, Regina and Alice. She is survived by her 5 children, Teri, Mike, Pat, Dan and Tim and 2 grandchildren, Megan and Ashley. She is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews.
    She and her husband, Paul, were initial members of St. Brendan's Catholic Church in 1953. Floriva worked at St. Brendan’s School and Church for 35 years. She always had a special place in her heart for Publix Supermarkets where she worked in the bakery for 10 years. She loved watching and rooting for the University of Alabama football team, the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Marlins baseball team.   
She gave and received both love and respect for 91 years. Her family and friends were always the most important parts of her life. She loved and enjoyed pets at home, Mickey (a Golden Retriever) and 2 cats, Mothra and Wednesday. 
    Viewing will be Wed., Aug. 29th from 5-9PM at Stanfill Funeral Home, 10545 S. Dixie Hwy. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11AM on Thurs., Aug. 30th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 106 SE 2nd Rd., Homestead. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Park North.
