Eleonora Maria Landy

November 6, 1930 ~ December 12, 2020 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Tribute

Early Saturday morning December 12, 2020, Eleonora Simmel Landy known as Elie, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 90 after a valiant 2-week battle against Covid-19. She passed peacefully at home.
Elie was born on November 6, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio to George and Emmy Simmel. At a very early age she showed great talent in art, winning scholarships and graduating from THE Ohio State University with a degree in fine art. After graduation she moved to Miami and began a successful career as a commercial artist with various advertising agencies including McCann Erickson.
In 1956 while a contestant in the Miss Miami contest, Elie became smitten with one of the judges, Burton Landy. They married a little over a year later and remained married for over 63 years until her passing. When they were first married, they made a pact that Burt would attend the opera that Elie loved, and Elie would attend football games for Burt. Elie kept her part of the bargain, attending football games for many years although often sitting in her seat reading a book even during the most exciting plays. They also traveled extensively visiting the far reaches of the globe together from Antarctica to the foothills of Mount Everest to Angkor Wat.
Elie was a devoted mother to two children Mike Landy and Lisa Landy and grandmother to three grandchildren, Nicole Landy, Gwen Howland and Jarrett Howland. She is survived by Burt and her children and her grandchildren. Because of Covid-19, there will be a funeral only for immediate family, but when the world is healthier again, the family will host a celebration of her life.
Elie was a huge supporter of animals, and in lieu of flowers if you are so inclined, the family requests donations to the animal shelter of your choice.
