Duane Danser O'Hara

Duane Bradford Danser O’Hara was born on May 23, 1942 in Hingham, MA. As a native to MA., she had a direct lineage to Governor William Bradford of England, who sailed on the Mayflower. She moved to Florida to attend “Sun-tan U” and studied education. She was a proud sorority sister. She taught elementary school for 40 years at Airbase Elementary School. Duane earned a Masters and Specialist degree in education, was an active alum of the University of Miami, and attended OLLI, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of the U of M. At UM Duane met John O’Hara. Once married, they lived in Cutler Ridge where they raised Mark and Mike. Son, Mark O’Hara, and former husband John O’Hara, predeceased Duane, and she is survived by son, Michael O’Hara. Later, Duane met Alan Dietz at a jazz concert at Pinecrest Gardens. They enjoyed fine dining and the company of good friends. Duane was a kind and gentle person who enjoyed the company of family and friends. She was soft spoken and was a great listener. She always knew how to give the best, most practical advice. Duane was the proud, loving grandmother, known as “Mimi,” of Katie(13) and Jack(7). She is also survived by, daughter-in-law Cristine, grandchildren Katie and Jack, brother Doug and sister-in-law Tony, nephew Christian and niece Lauren and the beloved O’Hara family. A Memorial Gathering will take place from 1-4 pm Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Stanfill Funeral Homes 10545 S. Dixie Highway. A celebration of her life will continue at the O’Hara home at 8810 SW 191 St. Cutler Bay. The burial service will be held Monday, May 3 at 10:00 am at Graceland Memorial Parks 13600 SW 117 Ave., Garden of Peace. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to Baptist Health So.
