RODRIGUEZ, DOROTHY B., age 94, Mayflower descendant, WWII Navy veteran, died 2/15/2018 of natural causes at Jackson South, holding the hand of her beloved son.
A graduate of UMass (BA- Nutrition Science), Mom was a great cook – as many will attest. We are grateful to have her gift of “the family recipes” and many other wonderful memories.
Mom lived a Life of Service. She served as her “family’s contribution” to WWII (her brother was too young to enlist), working in the Naval post office in NYC. She served as a career Air Force wife & mother, “retiring” to Miami in 1967. And she served each community she graced in countless roles: Scouts, Red Cross Gray Lady, St Andrew’s Outreach chairwoman, a member of the Fairchild Gardens “Monday morning clean-up crew”, and all round volunteer extraordinaire (too many to list here). Her personal motto was: Always Leave a Place a Little Better than you found it. She certainly achieved her goal!
Survivors include: son, Charles; daughter, Pamela; granddaughter, Liza; brother-in-law, Dave; sister-in-law, Glo; numerous nieces, nephews, special friends, and “adopted daughter” Lynne & her children.
Mom was predeceased by: her husband, Lt. Col. Earl B. Rodriguez; her son, Bradford; her older sister, Jane, and spouse, Woody, and their sons Peter & Rick; her younger sister, Anne; and her baby brother, Paul.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 1 at 10:00am at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church 14260 Old Cutler Rd.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: St Andrew’s – Outreach Committee, Fairchild Tropical Gardens, or your favorite charity.
