Dorothy MacPhee Hunter

Dorothy MacPhee Hunter, age 93, passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2021, with her family by her side. Strong, feisty, smart, and curious, Dottie was eager to chat and able to converse on any topic. A world traveler, she was committed to keeping fit. Widely praised by her extended family for her hospitality, Dottie was especially proud of her daughters and granddaughters and grateful for the presence in her life of her two sons-in-law. A graduate of Pennsylvania College for Women (later renamed Chatham College), she was a dedicated member of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church for 50 years and volunteered for over 35 years at South Miami Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Dr. Burke Merren Hunter, her daughter Anne, and her twin sister Phoebe Swan. She is survived by daughters Catherine (James) Thornton and Elizabeth (James) Tilman, granddaughters Laura, Emily, and Katie, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM Friday, December 17 at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church following a private family viewing. She will be buried in the Cayman Islands next to her husband.
