Tribute

Daniel Francis Paleszewski
February 2, 1942 - February 13, 2023.

Daniel Francis Paleszewski passed after 81 years, leaving behind his wife, Pat, son , Robert Fleming, daughter in law, Jammie Fleming, daughter, Linda Setzekorn, son in law, Robert Setzekorn and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Batton, Sarah Batton her fiancé, Alec Permenter, Caroline Batton and Campbell Fleming.

Born in Buffalo, New York, he was the only child of Frank and Pearl Palazeski. In high school at Hutchinson Central Technical High, Dan excelled academically and pursued an intellectual interest in mathematics and debate. He was selected as a student for a trip to Europe and was able to personally meet General / President Eisenhower.

Dan enjoyed all types of sports and participated in baseball, softball (both as a coach and an umpire) basketball, hockey and ice skating. After graduating from “Tech" high school, he was awarded a full scholarship to University of Pennsylvania but decided he liked a smaller setting and returned to Buffalo where he graduated with a degree in mathematics from Canisius College, a Jesuit school.

He then took a commission with the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and served as an artillery officer. It was while there he met a USO attendant named Mary Patricia Fleming. They married in 1966. After military service and attaining the rank of Captain, Dan, his wife and new born daughter departed from North Carolina and headed to Miami, Florida in 1967, taking a management position with Eastern Airlines (their son was born right after Christmas in 1968). Dan was eventually recruited by his father-in-law and fellow business partner to help them manage what grew to be a highly successful chain of gift stores in Florida. Dan's business eye, talent and humor helped them identify products which created vibrant and successful merchandise. After closing the Barefoot Mailman stores in early 1990s due to health reasons, Dan helped consult with Parrot Jungle and improved their business gift store operations.

Dan was diagnosed with an early onset of Parkinson's disease around 1994, but he decided attitude was everything and quietly took on the disease, remaining active in sports and as an umpire at the Sunniland park near his home. One quote that showed his resolve: “When Dan plays basketball, he does not have Parkinson's disease!”

With his early retirement, Dan and his wife were able to enjoy summers up in Canada. They always looked forward to their spending time with their grandchildren playing cards, watching sports, solving puzzles, attempting to answer Jeopardy questions, solving Wheel of Fortune puzzles and listening to all types of music. He loved jazz and would often say: “It don't mean a thing if does not have that swing.” They also enjoyed boating, taking hikes, picking strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.

Dan was a man of faith and attended St. Louis Catholic Church in Miami. One scripture that best summarizes him is: “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. (???Romans? ?12??:?10? ?NIV??).

As a husband, father, and grandfather, we will miss his intelligence, wisdom, humor, faith, and love.
