Tribute

Miami native, Carl August Peterson passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 28, 2022. He was born on August 2, 1934 to Carl August Peterson, Jr. and Agnes Mosby Peterson. He married his beloved wife, Dona in 1958. Carl graduated Miami Senior High School, Class of '52. He was a copy boy at the Miami Herald until beginning his service in the Navy. His first tour of duty was at the U.S. Naval Communication Station at Adak, Alaska, a frigid island just east of Siberia. It was quite a change for a boy from Miami. He received his appointment to the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1955, transferring to Retired Reserve as a Commander in 1994. He received Top Secret Cryptographic Clearance from the 6th Naval Reserve Security Group. Carl earned a BA in Education from the University of Florida ('58). He taught 11th grade American History at Palmetto Senior High School ('58-'61) when the school first opened, while completing a Master's of Educational Administration degree from the University of Miami ('61). Carl continued his government career at the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage-Hour Division ('61-'66). He then worked for the National Labor Relations Board ('66-'89) retiring as a Supervisory Examiner. Carl loved to travel and see the world, but he particularly enjoyed spending time at his vacation home in Clarkesville, GA, fishing on the Soque River and feeding the deer. Carl is survived by his wife, Dona, his son, Eric, nephew, Steve Lewis (Lee) of Clarkesville, GA, niece, Judy Clark (Wayne) and cousin Bjorn Akaharkentz of Bergen, Norway. Carl's presence at the lamp post on the corner will be missed by his many friends and neighbors.
