Benita Dorothy Maynard

Benita Poppe Maynard, 86, longtime resident of Miami, passed away on July 29th, 2022. Born in Loda, Illinois, on November 23rd, 1935, to Edna and Eberhard Poppe, she had one sister, Alice, and was raised in Buckley, Illinois. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, after which she eventually went on to work as a coordinator of a hospital volunteer program. She showed her strength as an Air Force wife and a devout member of her church. She was a talented gardener, an avid baker, and a lover of all dogs. Benita was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Devoted to her family, friends, and faith, she was always willing to offer a kind hand, heartfelt conversation, and a laugh if you needed one. She was loved by many and will be very missed.

Benita is survived by her sons, William and Mark Maynard, two grandchildren, Madison and Kyle Maynard, one nephew, Brian Funk (Grace) and one great nephew, Eric Funk. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and her husband, Charles “Red” Maynard, to whom she was married for 60 years. A memorial gathering will take place from 11:30 AM to 2 PM on August 10, 2022 at 10545 South Dixie Hwy, Miami, FL, 33156.
