Tribute

Aristides J. Millas born in Trenton, NJ on APril 12, 1933 to James Aristidis Millas and Helen Stillano Millas passed away peacefully on November 17 surrounded by his family. Proud of his Greek heritage, his military service and his profession, he lived a life where there was always time to watch a sunset, chat with a friend and definitely time for another drink.
Known during his life as Aristide, Arthur, Art, AJ, Ari and Papou, he finished his 5-year architectural degree at Carnegie-Mellon and his Master's at Harvard Graduate School of Design. After an impressive career in Pittsburgh with Deeter Ritchey Sipple , where some of his accomplishments were principal designer of Three Rivers Stadium, Market Square, Alleghany Center, Westinghouse Pavillion at the 1964 Worlds Fair. He came to Miami in 1972 as principal architect for GAC for whom he designed Rio Rico in Arizona and Kissimmee in Florida. Later he became principal architect for Interama in North Miami.
In 1974, Ari joined the University of Miami School of Architecture. He was most proud of the work done by his students that laid the groundwork for the Art Deco District to become part of the National Historic Register. Many of his students projects won awards by the AIA and the City of Coral Gables. He retired in 2015 after 14 years of teaching. If architecture was his first love, his second was his wife, Carol. He loved to brag that they met on a blind date on Miami Beach in 1977. They travelled much of the world together. He is survived by his wife, brother, his stepchildren, grandchildren. He is predeceased by his most beloved grandson, Maxwell.
