Anthony Gerard Gorman passed on October 29, 2023.
A Palmetto Bay resident for 30 years, Tony enjoyed an active civic life in the Village. Tony was a patriot and particularly interested in his fellow veterans. He was recently elected to serve on Homestead AFB’s Military Affairs Council. The City of Homestead awarded him 3 Military Appreciation Day Certificates of Recognition. He very much enjoyed the community at the American Legion Post 133.
Tony served in the United States Army Special Forces, also known as The Green Berets. He logged hundreds of jumps in the elite paratrooper unit, the 82nd Airborne Division. He attained the rank of Lieutenant. Tony was also an active member of the Special Forces Association Chapter 76 of Florida.
Tony was a man of many dimensions and interests. In his youth he served as a Catholic altar boy. As a young man, he enjoyed surfing and bronco riding. He successfully completed several triathlons and trained regularly in martial arts. He had 3 black belts; Juai Kung,Kung Fu, Juai Kung Karbo and Nisei Goju Karate. He tried his hand at golf. He enjoyed spy novels and action-adventure movies.
He loved his friends and family deeply, especially his wife Pamela of 55 years. Throughout his life, everyone Tony met knew that he was a special person. He took great pleasure making neighbors, friends and acquaintances feel appreciated and welcomed. Tony believed that holidays were best celebrated with others. He always had an extra seat for an old friend, a distant relative or someone he just met at the dinner table. People found Tony charming, gracious, generous and funny without fail. It is difficult to find a person who didn't feel immediately at ease in his company.
In addition to being survived by Pamela, his children Heather, Sean, David and Jim survive him. His cousins Linda and Doug Wilson, great-niece and nephew Sarah and Cole Izhaky survive him. His beloved dogs Chasca, Roxette and Dewey survive him as well.
He was 74 years old.
