Alvis Lehman Causey passed away unexpectedly due to COVID on January 1, 2021, in Winston Salem, North Carolina, at 89.
Alvis is survived by his son Douglas Causey and daughter in law Miriam Causey (Miami, FL), nine grandchildren Ronald J. Wray II (Ping) (Atlanta, GA), Douglas L. Causey (Miami, FL), Stefanie Causey Sanchez (Joe) (Herndon, VA), Brittany and Kimberly Causey (Miami, FL), Katelyn Causey (Stokesdale, NC), Christopher Causey (Stokesdale, NC), Amanda Causey (Stokesdale, NC), Brandon Causey (Stokesdale, NC), and three great-grandchildren Ava Yan Wray (Atlanta, GA), Emery Hiatt (Stokesdale, NC), Sofia Ruby Sanchez (Herndon, VA). He is preceded in death by his wife Bettie Joan Lewis Causey, Parents Palton L. Causey and Varona Smith Causey, siblings Deatrice L. Causey, Robert L, Causey, and Charles Causey, children Sharon K. Wray and Craig L. Causey.
Alvis was born on February 14, 1931, in Miami, FL, to Palton L. and Varona S. Causey. He graduated from South Miami and was drafted into the Army, serving as a medic and rank of sergeant in the Korean War. Alvis was part of the 23rd Infantry division Company H. Upon his return from service, he married Bettie Joan Lewis (Gretna, VA). They settled in Miami, FL, and raised three children (Sharon, Doug, and Craig). Alvis worked for the Zac Company and was the owner of Causey Roofing until it closed in 2003. His children and grandchildren remember him as a kind, loving, and generous person who always put family and others ahead of himself. He always encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams.
Alvis enjoyed flying, cycling, and driving his 1988 Corvette. He also always enjoyed traveling to see his family members and traveling overseas with his wife and dear friends from the roofing association. Alvis was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins, attending numerous home games and traveling to London to see them in an exhibition game. Alvis was a member of the South Miami Lodge # 308 and was a 3rd Degree Master Mason, Scottish Rite Valley of Miami 32nd Degree Mason, and Mahi Shrine Temple Noble.
A funeral is scheduled for 3:00 pm Friday, January 8, at the Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, with a reception to follow. Pastor Marc Mortensen will officiate the ceremony. Due to the current Covid pandemic, only immediate family members will attend to celebrate Alvis’s life.
