Alberto Edgardo Rodriguez

Alberto Edgardo Rodriguez Pérez, O.SS.T., after a several months of declining health, passed away on April 14, 2017 at Saint Anne’s Nursing Center in Miami, Florida. 

Fr. Alberto was born on April 8, 1950 in Cárdenas, Matanzas, Cuba to the late Luis Antonio Rodriguez Hernández and Juana Pérez Hernández.  He was baptized on October 28, 1950 and Confirmed on August 4, 1968, at La Purísima Concepción Church in Cárdenas.  

He entered the Novitiate of Order of the Most Holy Trinity and of the Captives on September 8, 1981, at the completion of which he made Simple Vows on September 8, 1982 at Holy Trinity Monastery in Pikesville, Maryland.  Fr. Alberto made his Solemn Profession of Vows on October 4, 1986 at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center in Hyattsville, Maryland, was ordained to the diaconate on May 2, 1987 at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, DC, and was ordained to the priesthood on August 15, 1987 at Saint Dominic Catholic Church in Miami, Florida.

Fr. Alberto served in parish ministry at: Christ the King Parish in Corpus Christi, Texas; Estrella del Mar y Jesus Salvador in Champerico, Guatemala; Our Lady of Sorrows and Holy Trinity Chapel in Victoria, Texas; Holy Name of Jesus in West Palm Beach, Florida; St. Maximilian Kolbe in Pembroke Pines, Florida and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary-Saint Richard in Palmetto Bay, Florida.  Fr. Alberto also spent time assisting at the Order’s missions in India.

Fr. Alberto will be remembered for his ministry to Spanish speaking immigrants in Texas and Florida, his concern for persecuted Christians and his quick wit and sense of humor.  He was a capable translator, using his talents to assist in the preparation of Spanish language prayers.  

Fr. Alberto is survived by the brothers and priests of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity and of the Captives, and a brother, José A. Rodriguez (and his wife, Lidia), a niece, Marlene Alvarez-Jacinto (and her husband Manuel), and two nephews: Antonio Rodriguez (and his wife Liz), and Nelson Rodriguez (and his wife Elizabeth.)  He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary-Saint Richard Church 7500 SW 152nd Street, Palmetto Bay, Florida 33157 on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 2 PM to 6:45 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 7:00 PM on that same day, Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary–Saint Richard Church in Palmetto Bay.

His body will be transferred to Holy Trinity Monastery, Pikesville, Maryland, where the Syro-Malabar Office for the Dead will be chanted in the monastery chapel at 11 A.M. on Friday, April 21, 2017.  Interment will follow in the monastery cemetery. 

He will long be remembered by us, since “fraternal communion among our religious is not interrupted by death but is strengthened and truly endures through love and prayer” (GD 41). With confidence in the Mercy and Goodness of the Trinity, we request that the suffrages prescribed by our legislation be offered for Fr. Alberto.
