With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Herman Moses Athias Sr. (Drakes), age 98,
of Pinecrest, Florida (Formerly of Brooklyn, New York and Kingston, Jamaica). He passed away
Wednesday October 19, 2022.
Herman worked for the Jamaica Gleaner Company and Desnoes and Geddes in Jamaica. He migrated to the USA in 1969 and spent most of his USA working years employed to Drakes Bakeries in Brooklyn, New York.
He was a past member of the Mystic Rose Lodge No. 5 (Jamaica) and the Independent United Order of Mechanics, Friendly Society, W. H. Inc (Brooklyn, New York).
He enjoyed listening to jazz, ska and reggae music.
Herman is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Moses Athias and Sarah Barton and his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Gloria Athias, daughters; Pearline, Rose and Carole, sons; Herman Jr, Randell and Franklyn, one great great grand child, numerous great grand children, grand children, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Stanfill Funeral Home, 10545 South Dixie Highway, Pinecrest, Florida with Rev. Joseph Nock officiating. Viewing will start at 10 AM and the service will start promptly at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at 1:00 PM in Miami Memorial Park, 6200 South West 77th Avenue, Miami Florida 33143.
