Wesley Paul Novak, age 67, died quietly in his sleep on January 16, 2017 in the Miami Baptist Hospital following a battle with lung cancer.
He was the son of John Novak, Jr. and Anna Mae (Peterson) Novak. He is survived by his sister Cheryl Ann Novak.
Wes was born on September 4, 1950 in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia when his father was stationed in Portsmouth during his twenty years of service in the U.S. Navy. Later the family moved to Pennsylvania, thence to New Jersey. Wes spent his formative years in Lakewood, New Jersey.
He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1968. He attended Indiana Institute of Technology from 1968 to 1969. He attended Ocean County College in New Jersey from 1969 to 1971. He completed his college education at Miami University, from which he graduated in 1975 with a B.A. degree in business administration.
His favorite hobbies were baseball, motorcycles, and reading. He especially liked military history, political intrigue, and science fiction. His favorite author was Harry Turtledove.
After working in the restaurant industry and the record business, he worked for 28 years as a facility manager for A+ Mini Storage in South Miami.
Wes chose to be cremated. A memorial service will be held for him from 2-4pm on January 28, 2018 at the Stanfill Funeral Home.
Since Wes was an avid reader, in lieu of flowers the family ask that a book be donated in his memory to a school or library of your choice.
