FRYER, Thomas Edward, 87, passed away on March 7. 2013. Tom was born on September 1, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He moved to the South Florida area when he was six years old and grew up in Coral Gables. He graduated from Ponce de Leon High School where he played football and was in the band. He attended the University of Miami and graduated with a degree in business. During his college years he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity and in the ROTC. Following his college graduation he served in the US Army and was stationed in Korea. He remained in the army reserve as an officer once his tour of duty was over rising to the rank of Major in the Transportation Corps. Following his deployment to Korea Tom returned home to Coral Gables and married his long-time girlfriend, Tish Wilkins Fryer. They were happily married for 55 years. He founded Fryer Insurance Agency and worked until he retired at age 82. Tom loved boating and fishing and he spent many weekends fishing in Biscayne Bay and in the Florida Keys. He loved watching the sunsets at his condominium unit at Buttonwood Bay in Key Largo. Tom was a member of the Coral Reef Yacht Club, University Club and the Coral Gables Country Club.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Tom was pre-deceased by his wife, Tish Fryer, and his older brother, Ralph Fryer. He is survived by his son, Tom Fryer, Jr., his daughter, Lynn Kerdyk, son-in-law, Bill Kerdyk, Jr., and four grandchildren, Trae, Lindsay and Leigh Kerdyk and Johnathon McKinney, and his great-grandson, JJ. For the past five years, Tom was cared for in his home by Edlyn Kerr; the family wishes to thank her for wonderful care and support.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 12th at 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. at Stanfill Funeral Homes …
