Monica Lewis Johnson

November 4, 1972 ~ October 3, 2017 (age 44) 44 Years Old
Mrs. Monica Lewis Johnson peacefully slipped away at home on October 3, 2017 with her husband Jason at her side. She was 44 years old.
Monica was born in Montgomery, Alabama on November 4, 1972 the youngest of three children of the late James and Annie (Dailey) Lewis, both long-time educators in the Alabama Public School System. She was raised in Greenville, Alabama, and graduated from Greenville High School as class valedictorian. Monica then earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Vanderbilt University and her Juris Doctorate from Cornell University.
Monica was admitted to the Connecticut, Minnesota and Supreme Court Bar Associations. She practiced law for multiple corporations specializing in various areas of corporate law. Monica held attorney positions with Wiggin and Dana, LLP (Associate), H&R Block (Staff Counsel), Springs Global U.S. (Associate Corporate Counsel), Burger King Corporation (Director, Senior Attorney) and served as Vice President and General Counsel for Shoes for Crews, Inc. Professionally, Monica also served a term as a member of the Executive Board of Directors of the Cornell Law School Alumni Association.
Work/Life balance was of utmost importance for Monica. She adored her family, especially her three children. Birthdays and holidays were special events for her children and were always reserved to spend with them. Monica emphasized the importance of exposing her children to world experiences over materials and goods. For over 13 years, Monica served as a Host Mother for international au pairs residing from places such as Brazil, Colombia and Mexico to help expose her children to different cultures and experiences and considers the ten current and former au pairs as her “international daughters.” Similarly, godparents for her children were selected to represent the domestic and international character of her family including godparents from Barbados, Canada, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States.
Monica served her community through multiple means including as a Lector and Parishioner of Epiphany Catholic Church, a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a member of Jack and Jill of America- South Miami Chapter and like her mother, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Monica is survived by her husband, Jason A. Johnson; her children Ian Lewis Johnson, Cecily Grace Johnson and Aaron James Johnson; a brother Sedgwick Keith Lewis (Cynthia) of Plymouth, Minnesota and sister Chelsea Lewis-Bell of Spanish Fort, Alabama; Aunt Frances Dailey; Brother-in-law Gregory Johnson, five nephews, Brandon K.
