Margaret K. Smith

August 29, 1926 ~ January 4, 2018 (age 91) 91 Years Old
SMITH, MARGARET ANN KENNEDY gently passed away in her home on the evening of January 4th with her family present. She was the beloved wife of Melville Stephen Smith, Jr. of 30 years, who predeceased her on January 17th, 1979. Mom was born on August 29, 1926 in Vandling, PA, the daughter of Leo and Mary Kennedy. After graduating high school and learning how to fly a biplane, she enrolled in a commercial aviation program in Kansas City, MO. Upon graduation she accepted a position with National Airlines in Jacksonville, FL where she met Dad. Mom and Dad traveled the world while he worked at National. They were devout Roman Catholics their entire lives and raised six children, all of whom love, admire, and respect them. Mom was a proud member of the Church of the Epiphany for 55 years and supported the many activities of her children at Epiphany School, Christopher Columbus High School and Our Lady of Lourdes Academy. She was an avid reader her entire life and instilled this love in her children. Her biggest joy and pleasure was time spent with her family. She was happiest at family gatherings and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom and Dad’s love, faith and example made us, their children, who we are today. They both will live on in our hearts forever. Thank you, Mom for all your love and support over the years. You embody all the qualities anyone would want in a mother. While our hearts ache at your leaving this earth, we share your joy at long last being reunited with Dad. God blessed the world with your presence.
Mom is survived by brother Leo Kennedy of Scranton, PA, sons M. Stephen Smith III and wife Maureen Smith, Paul S. Smith and wife Marianne Smith, daughter, Mary Elizabeth Smith Milne and husband Sam Milne, sons Patrick L. Smith and wife Noemi Smith, Mark T. Smith and wife Teresa Smith, and J. Christopher Smith, and partner Tammy Crayk, as well as 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Monday, 1/8/18 at Stanfill Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Tuesday, 1/9/18 at Epiphany Catholic Church, 8235 S.W. 57 Ave. Interment will follow at Our lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery.
