I have many happy memories of my Uncle Joe. He was silly and fun as well as solidly there for our family. We would spend the holidays at their house in Miami .

What a wonderful man, father and husband. He was a servant leader and mentor to many. I was truly blessed when he hired me at Ryder and became my mentor. To this day I use the many things he taught me. He was wickedly smart and had a temperament that demanded excellence and pride in your work. I remember when we were first shifting to personal computers and I and members of the team were doing the calculations through the software. He just did not want to believe the numbers could be right and many a night we rechecked them on a calculator. Then one day he just smiled and said, "These numbers looked great" and he no longer disbelieved in that new fangled technology. I left the office shaking my head with an arm full of folders and my calculator ready to prove they were correct. He was patient when he needed to be and could push when needed. He made you think about the problem and come up with a solution, not just dump a problem on his desk. He always told things as they were and I learned that most of the time that is the way to do it. His sense of humor and passion for his work will always be remembered. Very sorry to see him go, but know he is up entertaining the Lord and many of his friends and family that preceded him. Our condolences to the family.

Charles Family : I am truly sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He kind of took me under his wing when I was transferred to Miami in 1969. I will never forget when I asked him to go out for a drink he said I go out for drinks not just a drink !!!
Never knew about Mt Saint Mary's. I know several graduates and have passed there numerous times on way from PA to Va.
He was truly a legend at Ryder for his expertise on benefits and we are truly grateful.
With my deepest sympathy to the Charles family . Brad Scribner
