I had the privilege of serving under Commander Gallup as a young Coastie onboard the USCGC Southwind.
We were in the same office - he, as the Executive Officer - me, as a Yeoman. I was 18 and pretty green. Through his actions, I was able to see what an experienced Coast Guardsman should look like, sound like, be like.
I will be forever in his debt - he helped mold a kid into a man.
Rest in peace Commander!
