Fred William Newcomb “Bill” was born on July 4, 1931, on Long Island, New York, to Cora May Babbit and Fred Smith Newcomb. Bill grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and lived for many years in Coral Gables, Florida, until his death at home on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and his brother, Richard Dunbar Newcomb.

He is survived by his sister Diana Lynn Parham Moore, along with her husband Dr. David W. Moore; by his nephews Richard D. Newcomb, Jr., Stephen F. Newcomb, and Dr. Christopher D. Moore, and their families; and by his nieces, Elizabeth Abadie and Jennifer M. Wood and their families.

Bill is a loving father to his children and their spouses: Nancy and Steve W. Short, Gail and Fred W. Newcomb, Jr., and Margaret and James A. Carr.

Bill is known as “Grampa” to Steve W. Short, Jr., Jacqueline E. Short, David A. Short and wife Jeniffer, Stephanie and husband Brandon Holsworth, William C. Short, Melanie A. Short, Natalie J. Short, and Rachel E. Newcomb.

He is “Great-Grampa” to David A. Short Jr., Arabella M. Short, Jacob E. Holsworth, Connor W. Holsworth, and Evan H. Holsworth.

Visitation Monday, June 26, 2017, between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. at Stanfill Funeral Homes, 10545 S. Dixie Hwy., Miami, FL 33156, and his final resting place will be in Natchez City Cemetery, Natchez, Mississippi, beside his father Fred Smith Newcomb and other family members.
