Welcome to the memorial page for

Francis Smogar

October 18, 1929 ~ January 12, 2018 (age 88) 88 Years Old
Francis “Frank” Smogar passed away on Friday, January 12th. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio and lived in Miami since 1964. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou, children, Matthew Smogar and Pamela Salemi, son-in-law, Mark and grandson, Bret Salemi.

Frank served in the United States Marine Corp on the USS Fargo. After his third year of service, his tour was extended an additional year to fight in the Korean War and in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in which he endured brutal winter conditions.

Following his honorable discharge, he began a career with the airline industry in 1952 and retired in 1992 from Pan-American Airlines.

Since his retirement, being an avid golfer since his teens, Frank continued with daily golfing. When he was on strike with National Airlines, he even helped in the development of Briar Bay Golf Course. In retirement, he was a volunteer at this same course.

Frank's favorite pastime was playing the organ. From two simple lessons, he continued to play as a self-taught organist for more than thirty years playing for his family and friends.

Frank's thoughts and priorities were always with his family. He was a man who asked for little and gave so much. We will forever love and miss him.

Service to be held on Friday, January 26th at 9:30am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Visitation to be held that evening from 6-8pm at Stanfill Funeral Home.
