Eladia Gonzalez Vila (89) passed away on January 22nd, 2018. Born in Caborana, Asturias, Spain she migrated to Cuba at age 2 with her two siblings - Rosa Gonzalez, Eduardo Gonzalez and her parents Maria and Antonio Gonzalez. Eladia, a strong, independent woman was one of the courageous parents that sent her three children alone to the U.S. via Operation Pedro Pan to save them from a life in communism and to live in freedom. In 1965, she escaped Cuba in a boat and was finally reunited with her children.
Eladia devoted her time to her husband and three children whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed attending family parties, and playing dominoes with friends and family. She also loved traveling around the world with her husband, including several trips to visit family in Spain and Puerto Rico.
Eladia was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years Calixto Vila and her twin sons, Jorge and Antonio Garrandés. She is survived by her daughter Susy Rodriguez, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a grandnephew, a grandniece, sisters Rosa Gonzalez Rivas, Flora Rencurrell, and nieces and nephews.
A mass of Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 2987 W. Flagler Street, Miami.
