August 18, 1920-October 23,2017
Dorothy Joan Flynn, age 97, passed away peacefully at home October 23, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Laferty, Ohio on August 18, 1920. Dorothy met her, husband William Flynn, while living in Pittsburgh. They moved to Miami in 1954 and purchased a home in what is now Pinecrest in 1957. Dorothy and Bill were married for 75 years and had 5 children together.
Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener who grew numerous beautiful orchids. She also loved fishing, shelling and golf which she watched until her final days. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. We will never forget the marathon games of Yahtzee at Sanibel with the Grandchildren. There are many fond memories of the holidays at Grandma’s. Dorothy was an excellent cook who shared many of her favorite recipes with her children and Grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William, by just over a year. She is survived by her five children: Richard (Doris), Barbara, Patti (Mike), Tim (Soraya) and Phil (Cindy). 8 Grandchildren: Bob, Bill, Chris, Nikki, Kristen, Kyle, JP and Cody. 5 Great Grandchildren: Bobby, Jimmy, Ariel, Chaz and EJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Catholic Hospice of Miami in memory of Dorothy J. Flynn.
Memorial services will be private.
