Beverly Semko Price

December 30, 1951 ~ March 16, 2017 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Beverly Ann Semko Price, 65, of Coral Gables, FL passed away on Thursday the 16th March 2017 after a 5 year battle with ovarian cancer.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA to John and Albina Semko, Beverly was an older sister to David Semko and Diane Lischner. A gifted student, she was her high school salutatorian and went on to earn an academic scholarship to attend the University of Pittsburgh. Determined to achieve her dream of receiving a higher education, she supported herself throughout school doing everything from making pizzas to driving a school bus (no small feat for a woman of 5’2”). She went on to graduate from Pitt with a BA in Mathematics and her Masters in Computer Science for Education. Following graduation, she moved to The Netherlands where she taught math at the American School at The Hague.

In 1980, tired of all the rain in The Netherlands and missing family, Beverly moved to Miami, FL and began working at FDP Corp. as an actuarial programmer. Here she met the love of her life, Scott, and the two married in 1984. Shortly thereafter, their first daughter Hilary was born, followed by their second daughter, Erin, in 1986.

An extraordinarily loving mother, Beverly loved nothing more than her family and she took every opportunity to celebrate them. She celebrated them in small ways by doing things like putting notes in the girls’ lunches all the way from kindergarten to high school graduation. And she celebrated them in big ways by planning the most wonderful family trips to Europe and places like Estes Park, CO, for Scott’s 55th birthday, and Oahu, a Christmas gift that her husband, daughters, and sons-in-law will never forget.

Outside of her family, Beverly was very active and accomplished. After many wonderful years as a VP at FDP, in 2000 Beverly went on to open her own software company, Life Products Solutions Group, with Scott and several long-time colleagues. She was also the world’s most incredible home chef and would come home from a long day at the office and crack open a favorite old cookbook, the latest issue of Bon Appetit, or ad-lib a recipe and cook away the day’s concerns.

After being diagnosed with cancer in 2012, Beverly was known to pester her doctors with two questions, “When can I go back to pilates?” and “When can I travel?”. Pilates kept her strong and centered before her diagnosis and afterwards she would credit it with her fast recoveries from surgeries and treatments. Travel was her other great love. She, her husband, and her brother owned a cabin in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee that was the setting for many wonderful trips with her husband, daughters, brother and sister. Though she was not a Floridian by birth, she made up for lost time by going to Disney World several times a year, often with other members of the Price and Goldberg families, and most her granddaughter, Harper joining in on the fun. She would visit her daughters often, whether they were living in New York, Portland, San Francisco, or DC. She cherished the trips she took with her friends the Canidas, the Kerdels, and the Echeverrias, to Italy and the Bahamas. And the journeys she took with her husband to places like Ireland, Norway, and Mendocino were among the memories she held closest to her heart. Beverly loved going to new places, trying new foods, and seeing new sights. She especially loved travel as way to spend time with family and friends and she did it every chance she got.

Beverly is survived by her husband of 32 years, Scott, her daughters Hilary Waks (Adam) and Erin Price (Joshua Riedel), and her 4-month-old granddaughter, Harper Ann Waks.
